How many smoke alarms do you need in your home and where?

Smoke Alarms Sunshine Coast QLD

The Queensland governments smoke alarm legislation details where and how many alarms are located in your home. The number of alarms that you are required to have in your home depends on its size, layout, number of stories and number of bedrooms. That is why it is important to understand what is required specifically for your home. All new private homes, townhouses and units will require hardwired photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms as of January 1st 2017. If a hardwired smoke alarm cannot be installed, non-removable 10-year battery smoke alarms can be installed instead.

Smoke Alarm Installation in Sunshine Coast

The legislation specifies that alarms should be placed in

● On each story
● In every bedroom (in private homes from 2027)
● In hallways that connect bedrooms and the rest of the home
● Between bedrooms and other parts of the storey if there are no hallways
● At least one smoke alarm must be installed in the path of the most likely exit if there are no bedrooms in the dwelling.

All rental properties will need to comply with the above from January 2022 or they cannot be rented or sold. We supply free quotes to upgrade ahead of time and save before the big last minute rush.
